Bou's Farewell Message
To everyone who has supported Antic Café
Thank you very much for always supporting us. This time, we have an important announcement for everyone.
An Cafés guitarist, Bou, will be retiring from Antic Café after the Hibiya Outdoor Live on April 30th.
This was Bous own decision, and we respect his views, and this decision was talked over with all the members.
The members, staff, and everyone involved decided to make Bous graduation on April 30th the best live that weve ever done.
Please watch over Bous courageous figure until the very end.
Below, are the reports of comments made by Bou and the other members. Red Café.
From Bou
This is sudden, but I, Bou, have decided to leave Antic Café after the Outdoor Hibiya Live on April 30th.
Since a little while ago, there was something that I wanted to challenge no matter what, and I was constantly repressing the feeling that was growing steadily bigger in my heart.
But, when I was doing recordings and tours, I came to feel like I was lying to the members and the cafekkos.
I felt as though I would be a bother to the members, staff, and cafekkos if I left it as it was so I have consulted with them.
This decision is the result of talking with the members a lot. Of course, even now I adore An Café, and I love the cafekkos.
Its hard right now to talk about my future plans, but I think that with a little more time, I will be able to.
I am so very sorry to all the cafekkos who believed in and followed me.
But making this decision is not a negative thing. I have hope for the future, and I think I want to move forward.
At the April 30th Outdoor live, I am going to show you the best Bou I can be.
When that time comes, lets say goodbye with smiling faces.
From Bou to Miku
Youre the best singer, Miku.
From the first time I met you, you said, Lets start a band and without really knowing anything, you tried so hard. It was fun.
Im glad you were my vocalist, and I think that you were perfect every day.
I believe that you are strong, Miku. Please try your best with all your power. I look forward to Mikus singing voice which sounds like a soothing breeze.
The form of Miku that I saw on stage is the best, and I relied on you a lot!
Thank you for singing for me.
Thank you for loving to sing.
I was very happy.
Please make me feel even happier on our last stage together. No matter what, please consider me a beloved friend! With all the feelings in my heart, nyappy!!
From Bou to Kanon
Genius Kanon.
After I made this decision, you did your best, you were enthusiastic, you were kind, Kanon. That made me truly happy.
Every time I saw your face, Kanon, tears welled up.
But because I was trying to look cool, I held it in, and I cant forget your face when you sadly said, It will be the last time playing guitar back to back in the center of the stage...
Im looking forward to playing together with you at Hibiya. We were never very good, but I think that we are the coolest people ever!
Thank you for always being kind to me! Mysterious genius Kanon-san, I will always love you!
From Bou to Teruki
Forever respected Teruki.
Thank you for keeping An Café together.
From the first time I saw you, Teruki, I was charmed by you at first sight, you were like an older brother, and I strongly thought, Even if the other two disagree, that guy is going to be our drummer!
That was no mistake; I was right! Each day I spent with Teruki was truly a happy day.
We were also together on the way home, and the Teruki inside the car is a little annoying, but you made me energetic!
When I told everyone the decision I made, you said to me who was already unable to be dissuaded Because anything is fine, because its okay even if you dont come to practice, I want to stand together with you on the stage, and when you said that, I was able to think, Ah, I will try my best as a man until the very end. And for that, I thank you.
No matter what, please be shining Teruki who makes me feel energetic and smile. Please do your best!
I will continue to respect you forever.
Message from Miku
This sudden announcement must have surprised everyone, and Im sorry for that.
I think that the cafekkos especially must be crying and grieving a lot.
At first, I too was so shocked I was speechless when I heard about it from Bou-kun.
The fun times and memories from the time An Café was made until now were running through my head, and I was painfully sad and very worried.
The band continued talking together for a long time, and we even thought about breaking up.
But, after thinking about it, I felt that I wanted to support the path that Bou-kun has chosen, and erase the cafekkos tears, and those feelings became stronger day by day.
That means that the decision we made wont stop there, and we will continue to go forward.
Our paths may be different, but we will always be friends; were family.
Both Bou-kun and us will continue to try our best so from here on, if you watch over us warmly, Ill be happy.
In order to make Bou-kuns April 30th graduation ceremony the best, lets do our best by putting our efforts together with everyone.
Lastly, Bou-kun...thank you for these four years.
When I caught a cold, you send me kind e-mails, when my parents opposed my being in a band, you came to my parents house and talked to them for me.
Theres so many memories that it would be impossible to write them all, but now, I can only think of these words.
I truly thank you. Lets make the April 30th the best graduation ceremony!
A Message from Kanon
This time, it has been decided that Bou-kun is going to retire, and I will be full of so much regret
.
Bou-kun was the first member that I met after coming to Tokyo, and he was the one who put Antic Café together. After the band started, I was with him more than my family, and he was always there, and I never thought that he would leave.
I never thought I would have to announce this kind of comment.
As a bandmate who played the same kind of stringed instrument, it was amazingly reassuring to see Bou-kun standing. It was really fun to be able to stand together on stage. I was really happy to see Bou-kuns smiling faces when we looked at each other. I wanted us to be together always.
When I first heard that Bou wanted to retire, I was shocked and couldnt agree to it. No way I said, and I couldnt face anything about it.
But I heard Bou-kuns firm decision, and as a friend and companion, I think that I want to see Bou-kun off as though he is going on a journey not as though we are separating.
From here on, well be chasing different dreams, but even if we are apart, the bonds between Bou-kun and us will be connected forever.
It makes me very sad that we cant be together, but I will move forward wihle being encouraged by Bou-kuns smiling face that tells me, Do your best. And I will always, always do my best for Antic Café, the band that we made with Bou-kun.
The announcement was sudden and Im sorry for making all you cafekkos very unhappy. Im truly sorry.
A Message from Teruki
I heard that Bou-kun was thinking about quitting from a third party before Bou-kun told me himself.
At that time, I thought that I would definitely stop him.
Because I thought that for the sake of me, the future of Antic Café, and the cafekkos, we needed Bou-kun. However, when Bou-kun himself told me, I want to retire, I couldnt stop him at all, and merely replied, Yeah, I understand.
At that time, Bou-kun looked like a completely different person than the usual Bou-kun. He looked incredibly sad, and to me, he looked as though he was worn out. I think that Bou-kun made the decision after worrying a great deal and suffering a lot.
He felt a responsibility for betraying the members, the staff, and the cafekkos with his retirement.
I think that he was worrying about this all on his own without being able to tell anyone about it.
Because I thought that foolishly encouraging him by saying, Dont say things like that, lets do our best together would only cause Bou-kun more pain, I didnt stop him.
I feel very, very sorry for all the cafekkos. Im sorry.
But I think that everyone is suffering too, but I think that no one is suffering more than Bou-kun.
And so, please try to understand Bou-kuns feelings.
Even though I was with him almost every day, I wasnt able to support him at all, and I feel incredibly miserable and regretful.
I think that at least I want to make the April 30th live a great live so that Bou-kun can have a happy memory of a fun time with An Café. If the cafekkos all cooperate too, I will be very happy.
**A note from the translator: Goodbye, Bou-kun!! Good luck in the future!!
oh and i find this very funny
Pick Up Artists Interview
BOU: I'm Bou, the guitarist.
TERUKI: I'm Teruki, the drummer.
MIKU: I'm Miku, the vocalist.
KANON: I'm Kanon, the bassist.
QUESTION: What is the story of the band's formation?
MIKU: Right, I saw Bou's internet post. It said that he played guitar and wanted to do a live with a comical story concept in the style of visual Kei. I also thought this was a good idea so I sent him an e-mail.
BOU: Thanks.
MIKU: Thanks. I e-mailed him and then met him briefly. He was such a gentleman. (Teruki points out to Miku where the camera is so he turns to it) Yes, such a gentleman that he treated me to dinner. I thought that was awesome, but I found out that he was unreliable, especially in regard to meeting times. I didn't think we could do it like this so I quit.
BOU: At taht time, even though Mi-kun and I put an ad to find band members, Kanon snatched it up. We tried to do it together. We didn't become very close, but we tried to form a band anyway.
MIKU: During this time, I thought about wanting to do it again so I called Bou. Bou-kun and Kanon were together. We made arrangements to get together after that at a McDonald's. We listened to the song, and decided to get together. That day we went to Kanon's house. And then we made a song and it began!
QUESTION: What is the story of your band's name?
BOU: The story of the name Antic Cafe. I like horse racing and there is a horse whose name is Manhatten Cafe who is quite strong. And I said, let's call us Manhatten Cafe, but I was told that the name as it was is not good.
MIKU: And it isn't. Well, we are playing at an antic, no, not antic, athletic club, So then I thought let's name it Athletic Cafe, but we thought that wasn't good. So we looked athletic up in the dictionary, and the word Antic was close by so we became Antic Cafe.
TERUKI: I have a lot of free time. Even though I'm sitting in the middle on purpose, I haven't spoken yet.
QUESTION: What are your band's characteristics?
MIKU: So, Teruki, what are the band's characteristics?
TERUKI: So far, I haven't participated very much. Damn it! Our band's characteristics is this one keyword!
ALL: This one keyword!
TERUKI: Uh...what is this one keyword?
MIKU: What are you saying? You're the one who led us all!
TERUKI: One word, one word, I said. What is it? One word? I've thought of three. Harajuku.
MIKU: Harajuku.
TERUKI: Dance rock.
MIKU: Dance rock.
TERUKI: Nyappy.
MIKU: Nyappy.
TERUKI: Which should we try explaining first?
MIKU: Well, first, let's go in order from Harajuku.
TERUKI: From Harajuku. So, Bou-kun, explain Harajuku.
BOU: (so confused) Harajuku? We're a Harajuku-like band.
TERUKI: Things such as stage costumes are always bought in Harajuku when we're walking around with everyone.
MIKU: Yes.
TERUKI: Okay, next.
MIKU/TERUKI: Dance rock. (Gesture to Kanon.)
KANON: It's dance. And rock.
MIKU: What the-?
TERUKI: The third one! Nyappy.
MIKU: Nyappy is widely popular in An Cafe. It's a greeting. So we do nyappy this way.
TERUKI: I hear nyappy has a lot of meanings.
MIKU: Nyappy is good morning, evening, happening, morning. It has various meanings. Anything nyappy, anything nyappy.
TERUKI: When you call and someone answers. "Nyappy?"
MIKU: "Nyappy?" Everyone try using it.
TERUKI: Even when you call the store's employees shall say nyappy.
MIKU: They come to be all "nyappy, nyappy".
QUESTION: Is there something that you want your band members to change?
KANON: Well, this is something I can say to all the members, but they are a little too mean to me.
TERUKI: You like it, you like it.
MIKU: Certainly.
TERUKI: But, even though he's saying that, he really likes to be teased. He actually said that he has confidence in his ad-libbing ability when he's being teased. The other day when I was cast in an ad-lib part-
MIKU: You're nervous, you're nervous.
TERUKI: When I couldn't react quickly and stopped thinking, "It's awful, it's awful", Kanon said, "Look here, say something, Suck-at-adlibbing-Teruki-san!"
KANON: But I wanted to get revenge.
MIKU: I have something I want Kanon to change. The times when we're drinking, he definitely changes to a crazy person and does things like knocking stuff over. For example, when we went on tour, we were drinking sake in the town of Niigata, and Kanon starting saying, "Hey, hey, hey, hey!"
TERUKI: To some young girls, right?
MIKU: He started hitting on some young girls. And he was totally ignored.
TERUKI: He was ignored.
KANON: Then, Miku-kun did it with me.
MIKU: I did not! No, I did it too, but I was still in control. I don't know to say it, but I want him to control himself when he drinks.
TERUKI: When he goes to drink, he's the type who is a bother to everyone, huh?
MIKU: What about you, Teruki-san?
TERUKI: This person (Bou), I think. He's dirty.
BOU: What?
TERUKI: Let's see. When we go on tour together, his life style is messy. Well, first of all, he doesn't wake up on time for the departures, he doesn't get up, and around this person's futon it's all untidy. At the hotel, his stuff is spread out everywhere, and I'm always telling him to clean up.
MIKU: It's true.
BOU: I'm sorry.
TERUKI/MIKU: Well, how about you, Bou-kun?
BOU: Teruki-kun.
TERUKI: What? It's revenge.
BOU: Please stop getting naked when it's just the two of us.
TERUKI: You, stop saying that, what are people going to think?
BOU: No, when it's the two of us, well, at the house or the hotel, you take everything off.
TERUKI: Isn't it just once in a while that I take everything off?
BOU: No. Because you take everything off, I want you to put on something on the bottom at least. Or so I think. Please correct this behavior.
TERUKI: No way.
QUESTION: What are some memories from the one-man tour that you did in March of this year?
MIKU: Well, of course, the lives keep piling up rapidly, but as expected, the final live in Sapporo turned out to be the best live.
TERUKI: We did eight one-mans in a short period of time, and everyone properly reflected on the performances day after day. It was especially great to have PA-san telling me some big things. And each day, he came and reported to me about how we did, and the next day I dealt with those problems. I think it was a satisfying tour.
QUESTION: Please tell us about your upcoming activity.
TERUKI: Well, it was August 2nd at a place called Yoyogi Outdoor Music Hall in Tokyo, and, uh, we did a free one-man. Uh, and it's been decided that we will have a one-man on December 24th Christmas Eve at Shibuya Public Hall.
MIKU: That's awesome, isn't it?
TERUKI: As we move toward this, we are doing our best.
Please give a message to your fans.
BOU: Um, from now on, we'll be moving fast. Um, please pay attention to things like lives and music research. Please keep your eyes on us. Please cheer for us.
TERUKI: Uh, this is true of all the band members and staff too, but I intend to make the relationship we have with the fans very precious. Uh, because we will definitely send back the support you give us by trying hard, please cheer for us again. We will return it again. Please take care of us in the future.
MIKU: I think there are people who don't know Antic Cafe and people who do, but I think that the band called Antic Cafe consider their fans very precious. If you try us out even once, I think you will probably find us interesting. We will deliver fun music so everyone please cheer for us.
KANON: Let's see, people who don't have Christmas plans on December 24th, please come to the Shibuya Public Hall.
TERUKI: Oh!
MIKU: It's a CM (commercial), huh?
TERUKI: We will be giving a signed Antic Cafe poster to the viewers as a present.
